Dear Allison and John boy,

I made you gift tags that should outlast my life. For now, they will be wooden tags with my handwriting in permanent ink. I will attach them to a special gift every year. When I am gone, please buy yourself something from me and attach this tag at Christmas. If it’s not too painful, put it under your tree so you can still open a gift from me. I started this because every year around the holidays since CaliGram has been gone I always seem to find a gift that I KNOW my mom would have bought for me. Not just something I want but something only a mother would think to buy their child. I still use some of the holidays bags that have the sticker label tag attached in her handwriting and put a gift in there for myself. I know it sound silly but it’s so special to me! Those paper tags are wearing now after all the years of joyful present unwrapping. I managed to carefully peel off one and it is attached to my tag/bow/scissors/tape tote. It makes me smile every time I see it when wrapping gifts for you both.

Please consider carrying on this tradition with your children some day.

I love you very much,

Mom
